C-Town takes Men’s
Class B West
Slow Pitch National Championship
Oklahoma City---C-Town/American
Funding/Red Rock/DSSBats/Easton of Boise, Idaho may have been knocked
into the loser’s bracket early but they never lost sight of their
ultimate goal – winning the ASA National Championship.
C-Town began their pursuit of the
national championship with a 17-9 win over the Legion of Doom of Baxter,
Minn., before being knocked off by WCS/LCV of San Diego, Calif., 14-11
in the second round. With its chances of winning the title looking
bleak, C-Town went to work.
After spending a couple of hours
regrouping after the loss, C-Town came back and won its first game in
the loser’s bracket over the Exterminators of Anaheim, Calif., 14-12.
The close win seemed to breathe new life into the squad.
C-Town used the momentum from its
win to cruise to a 31-19 win over Pizzini Rios of Corpus Christi, Texas
in its final game of the day.
Life in the loser’s bracket is never
easy but C-Town was ready for the challenge. Things got started early
for them on Sunday morning with a 9 a.m. game with
Sportsdiamond.com/J&H/Worth of Albertville, Minn. Despite the early
start, C-Town was on fire offensively to earn a 27-14 win and a sport in
the loser’s bracket semi-finals. A 22-12 win over SEBO/Selloxx/Miken of
Apple Valley, Minn., put C-Town one win away from the championship game.
In the loser’s bracket final, C-Town
met Tharaldson’s of Fargo, N.D., who was considered an early favorite to
take the title in Waxahachie. Despite what many had thought,
Tharaldson’s was no match for the red hot C-Town squad who posted 26
runs in a 26-12 victory.
Redemption was on the minds of the
C-Town team as they took on WCS/LCV, who sent them to the loser’s
bracket early in the tournament, in the championship final. Revenge was
sweet in the first championship game as C-Town earned a 16-13 win to
force the “if” necessary game. In that game it got even sweeter as
C-Town capped off its comeback with a 20-14 win and the ASA Men’s Class
B West National Championship crown.
C-Town’s Sam Lopez earned the title
of Home Run Champion after slamming eight during the tournament. Julio
Salizar of WCS was the batting champion with a .750 average. Five C-Town
player’s were selected to the All-Tournament first-team including Jon
Oram, Ryan Barabe, Mike Bowlin, Kerry Down and Brent Newbill.
C-Town is the first team from the
state of Idaho to advance to the Hooters Championship Series in any
division of play and will look to become the first team from the west to
capture the Hooters Championship Series in the Men’s Class B division
when it takes on Bertie’s/B&C/Hub City Glass/Miken of Elizabethtown,
Ky., in Oklahoma City.
